Acrylic paint on Canvas. (I don't own a scanner so this is a photo of my piece)
Submitted as an entry for the "Arts for Animal Rights Contest 2013" (IARC). [link]

"We walked to the waters edge, and this one poor dolphin was trying to get away, it was swimming straight for us and the shore. It actually made it over a couple of nets. And every time it came up for a breath you could see blood right behind it. We could see the last couple of breaths it took, and then it went down and never came up again."
~ Quote from "The Cove" Documentary.

Every year 23,000 dolphins are slaughtered in Taiji, Japan. Dolphins are rounded up into a cove and captured by fishermen. The Dolphins that are not sold into captivity to places like Sea World are brutally slaughtered by fishermen and their meat is sold in supermarkets often marketed as other types of fish. Dolphin meat has a dangerous amount of mercury in it that can cause defects in humans. This brutal and unnecessary slaughter is harmful to Dolphins as well as Humans, it MUST be stopped.

If you like Dolphins i would highly suggest watching "The Cove".

A well done piece. Thank you for helping to bring awareness to the tragedy that happens yearly in Taiji. Every small bit helps and it starts with educating those who haven't a clue.

Thank you so much for your initiative. I think dA is vastly under-utilized as a medium of social change. You are part of the solution to a horrible, ongoing problem. I wish you all the best. Keep fighting the good fight.

As for the art itself (seperate from the content... dolphin swimming in bloody water and all), it is a very moving piece. Your use of color-- striking yet simple palate-- adds to the effect.

 Of course you're not the only one. Though it can seem that way sometimes. There are plenty more, even here on dA... and together, we can make a difference!!

For some reason this reminds of the episode in the Simpsons when the dolphins go crazy and kill humans for what they've done :U

There is also an episode of South Park (called "Whale Whores") which speaks to this issue. If you can appreciate SP's unique form of satire, it's a great episode.
